Safe Motherhood- A Road to Joyful Pregnancy

Safe Motherhood means ensuring that all women have access to the information and services they need to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth. The goal is to improve well being of mothers through a comprehensive approach of providing preventing, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health care. According to WHO the four pillars of safe motherhood is antenatal care, clean, safe delivery, Emergency Obstetric care and Family planning.

“Safe Motherhood Day‟ which is observed on the 11th April every year was marked by two events in India, in which UNICEF played a key role. Priorities of safe motherhood includes advancing Safe motherhood through human rights, empowering women and supporting choices. Safe motherhood is a vital economic and social investment aimed at delaying marriage and first birth, ensuring skilled attendance at delivery, improving  access to quality reproductive health services, preventing unwanted pregnancy and addressing unsafe abortion, and measuring progress and power of partnership.
